The Location

Kip MarinaThe west coast of Scotland has for a long time been highly regarded by cruising yachtsman throughout the world. From our perspective there are many key elements which render this coastline so delightful to sailors. The first is a function of the topography of western Scotland with its rugged coastline, many striking mountains, deep water inlets, and multitude of islands. Together these pre-historic features conspire to create the perfect cruising ground for yachts with abundant sheltered harbours and anchorages, many overlooked by magnificent peaks and glacial valleys.

Isle of ArranThe west coast is also fairly sparsely populated, unlike some other sailing areas of the UK where there may be a very large population living nearby and ‘competing’ for solitude on the water. So Scottish waters offer tranquillity, a chance to get away from it all and, of course, we should not forget that vital statistic – our friendly, Scottish welcome, perhaps in the local pub or restaurant after a great day’s sailing.

TowardThen you might consider our history and culture and visit some of the romantic, mediaeval castles, spectacular gardens of the great Victorian estates, world famous golf courses or whisky distilleries. Whether your cruise is just a day, exploring the spectacular scenery of the Firth of Clyde and its many islands, or a longer passage along the west coast, there’s no finer way to ‘sense’ the incomparable Western Scotland than by sea!
